原典改编，难得地高出原作不少，尤其是情节合理性上。有一个段落来自《临终的侦探》。杀手的形象被直接移植到BBC新版福尔摩斯第三集当中。

该系列目前为止最好的一部，新颖的手法和一快一慢的搭档，给这部剧增加了很多有趣的东西，最后依然是鸡汤时间，不过这次的鸡汤更自然、更深刻。
