电影不长但很精悍，戏剧张力很足，一直到最后20分钟才点明主角要吊死弗兰克弟弟的意图。全片都是外景摄影，荒漠、枯木、岩壁，尽书西部片的诗意。巴德博蒂彻和安东尼曼都是50年代传统西部片的解构者，在他们的电影中，主角已经丧失了以往的道德光环，而都是来自于身边的普通人，甚至许多都不乏人格上的缺点，这也使得电影独具魅力
